This study was conducted in collaboration with the Colombian universities UPTC and USTA. It presents an initial assessment of solid waste management at Italcol S.A.’s plant located in Cota, Cundinamarca, Colombia. The primary objective was to produce a report, published in 2018, on waste generation, storage, and disposal. To achieve this, site visits were conducted, during which the production, administration, and maintenance areas were inspected, and interviews were conducted with operators and department heads. The methodology used includes a literature review and the identification and description of production stages, flowcharts of the production process that identified the inputs, processes, and outputs of each stage, and a quantification of waste differentiated into non-hazardous waste, special waste, and hazardous waste. To conclude the research, an environmental impact matrix was generated to facilitate the development of a Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Plan.
